Congratulations to the Northeastern Section
which won the 2015 Residents Bowl championship!

Congratulations to the New England Section which won the 2014 Residents Bowl championship!

Designed to foster a spirit of competition and Section pride, the AUA Residents Bowl matches residents in an ultimate battle of the brains. This event continues to be an important highlight at the AUA Annual meeting, with sectional and international participants teaming up to compete. This is the not-to-be-missed event of AUA2015 – testing residents' knowledge in different urological subspecialties, the history of urology and important new research findings. Eight different nations will be represented alongside the Sections consist of five residents—only one team will be champion!

Born and brought up in Punjab, India, I graduated from GMC, Patiala, and did my masters in Surgery from the same institute. I am presently the chief resident in urology and renal transplantation at Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow. I speak, read & think urology. And yes, i eat, drink & sleep urology too. If i have time left after that, i love traveling, photography, reading science fiction, and playing my acoustic guitar. After finishing my residency, i would like to pursue my interest in robotic and laparoscopic urology. I'm thrilled that the Urological Society of India has selected me to represent my country at the AUA Resident bowl.

Born in Damascus, Syria, Abdo (Eddie) Kabarriti moved to the United States when he was ten years old. He grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and obtained his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is currently a fourth year resident completing his urology training at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jordan Luskin is currently Chief Resident at Georgetown University/MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, he received his BS from Emory University, immediately followed by his MS from Tulane University—so he is thrilled to be back in New Orleans for the AUA this year. After spending a year selling televisions for his family business, he began his medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine. After graduation this summer, he is joining a private urological practice in western Colorado, where he looks forward to many years of fishing after clinic.

I am honored to represent Urological Society of India in the AUA resident bowl and look forward to attending the academic feast.

After completion of residency, she will be a fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in endourology and minimally invasive urology.

I am a chief resident at Brown/RIH in Providence RI. I am originally from outside of Boston, MA and attended Boston College for undergraduate and UMASS Medical School where I met my wife. During college I minored in Spanish and I am fluent in Spanish. In medical school, I was fascinated by urology, particularly with the aspect of providing urologic care abroad to underserved populations through medical missions. I am active in the Christian Medical Association and my hobbies include swimming, golfing, and kayaking. My wife and I have been involved in medical mission trips in Bolivia and Honduras. We have a wonderful daughter named Hayley.

I am currently enjoying exploring the New England landscape while continuing outcomes research and completing my urologic surgery training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

I am 29 years old, and I grew up, attended medical school and joined the residency program of Urology in Brasilia, capital of Brazil, a beautiful city that was planned to be our capital in the fifties. I finished my urological residency in February, 2015 and I have just started my fellowship in Renal Transplantation, still here in Brasilia. My personal interests in Urology include Transplantation and minimally invasive procedures. Outside work, I like sports in general, specially soccer and american football. When I am not in the hospital, I spend my free time dominating fantasy football, running along the Charles River and globetrotting with my wife. Alexandria is located in the north coast by the Mediterranean Sea and is considered the second capital of Egypt. I'm very much interested in the field of female urology, functional urology and voiding dysfunction specialty, and aspire to be a pioneer in this field. I enjoy reading, jogging, and playing soccer. It's my great pleasure to represent my country in such an amazing social event, the 2015 AUA residents bowl. I was born in Germany near the French border where I finished high school. Hereafter I went to the University of Essen Medical School. There I was able to gain a first insight into urology and finished my dissertation. In view of my raising interest in this discipline, I did internships in Lucerne and Zurich (Switzerland) to deepen my urologic experience. Finally, I joined the residency program in Wuppertal, Germany. My research interests are focused on retroperitoneal fibrosis, urinary diversion and NMIBC. Outside work, I enjoy rowing, playing tennis and soccer. It is an honor to represent the German Society of Urology (DGU) at the 2015 AUA Resident Bowl.

I started my general surgery and urology residency in Louisville, KY and later transferred to the Ohio State University, where I have had an outstanding experience and currently serve as the chief resident. In July I will start a pediatric fellowship at Long Island Jewish and Cohen Children's hospitals, which is something I have been looking forward to long before residency. I will dearly miss Columbus, OH (Go Buckeyes!) but I am excited to be coming back to the great state of New York!

After graduation, he hopes to pursue a GURS fellowship in genitourinary reconstruction and trauma with the goal of a career in academics.

I am from Ireland and went to medical school in University College Dublin. I began my surgical training in Dublin, then moved to Belfast Northern Ireland for urological training. I am currently in my fourth year of training. I have recently been successful in the FRCS Urology exam and plan to take the FEBU exams later this year. I have an interest in genitourinary oncology, andrology and urethroplasty. My hobbies include hiking, mountain climbing and reading. It is indeed an honour to have been selected by the Specialist Urology Registrar Group (SURG) to represent the British Association of Urological Surgeons and both Irish and UK trainees at the AUA Residents Bowl.

He is currently a Captain in the Air Force Reserves and will serve as an Urologist in the Air Force following completion of his residency training. He is married and has two young boys. I previously competed and was a member of the winning team of the resident bowl at the South Central Section AUA meeting in October 2014.

Keio University is one of the oldest universities in Japan, which was started as a private school in the last days of Tokugawa regime and has produced many Prime Ministers or leaders of economic world. Now I receive training of general urology and perform fundamental researches that featured the theme of prostate cancer. My hobbies are sleeping and violin playing. I play classical music on violin, but I like jazz too, so I'm excited to come to jazz city. I am honored to represent the Japanese Urological Association in the 2015 AUA resident bowl.

Dr. Judy Ann Farias grew up by the border in Santa Maria, Texas. A first generation Mexican American, she graduated valedictorian of her high school class and attended the University of Texas at Austin. She received a Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry and a focus in Social Inequality, Health, and Policy. Dr. Farias was the recipient of the Bill Gates Millennium Scholars Program and Hicol-md-ic Scholarship Fund. Dr. Farias graduated in 2013 from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. She and her husband have a rescued cat and a chihuahua.

Sudhir Isharwal, MBBS, is a urology resident at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2008, Sudhir earned his MBBS degree from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in India. He subsequently devoted two years to Postdoctoral research fellowship at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine, where he worked to generate new hypotheses for basic science research in the field of prostate cancer. Dr. Isharwal has strong interest in the field of Urologic Oncology and is in the process of applying for fellowship.

My name is Philippe Nabbout and I am currently a PGY3 urology resident at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. My country of origin is Lebanon which is where I attended medical school (Saint Joseph University), I came to the United States 4 years ago. After completing a 1 year fellowship in endourology, I was lucky to match at the urology program at OUHSC. I have published 5 aticles and several abstracts. My research is focused on the management of urologic problems in patients with spinal cord injury.

He then attended Vanderbilt University Medical School, where he was a junior inductee into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He is currently a third year urologic surgery resident at Vanderbilt. Justin enjoys swimming, watching football with friends and spending time with his wife, Becky, and their two dogs, Vandy and Commodore.

Dr. Liu was born and educated in Guangzhou, China. In 2008 and 2010, he obtained his medical degrees from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Ryan Hutchinson is a Urology resident in his final year at Mayo Clinic Florida. He went to UCLA for his undergraduate degree, was briefly a professional poker player and subsequently attended Vanderbilt University for medical school. Next year he will be at UTSW for a Urologic Oncology fellowship. His research interest is in novel cancer treatment paradigms. From an enterprise perspective he is active in medical device development.

Qiang Li, MD, PhD, was born in China and graduated from Hunan Medical University, China. He obtained his PhD degree in cancer biology at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is currently a PGY-5 resident at Medical College of Georgia. He will be pursuing a urologic oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2015.

Ramiro (Joe) Madden-Fuentes is a 5th year resident at Duke University. He was raised in Cartago, Costa Rica and moved to the USA in 1996. He completed his undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University (2006), and medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine (2010). He is married to Laura Madden-Fuentes and enjoys free time with her and his two children (ages 4 and 1.5). He is currently pursuing a fellowship position in reconstructive urology.


Maxim James McKibben, MD

Max is currently a PGY3 at UNC – Chapel Hill, and is considering a Reconstructive Urology fellowship. He was born in the UK and raised in Columbus, OH (Go Bucks!). He graduated from Harvard in 2005 after four years on the football team and then worked for two years in biotechnology consulting in Boston. He returned to Ohio for his MD at Case Western before moving to warmer, sunnier NC for residency. Outside of the hospital, he most enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and two young daughters, and in the remainder of his free time in the outdoors running, woodworking, and traveling.

Currently a resident in the Urology department at Shanghai Changhai Hospital, Dr. Chao Zhang has published several publications and held several lectures including "Music Reduces Pain" and "Regenerative Medicine in Urology." Although Dr. Zhang is resides in China, he is no stranger to the states, he has spent 3 months interning at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as 4 months developing basic research in the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Zhang looks forward to contributing to this year's exciting residents bowl at AUA 2015!

I am a final year resident from "Down Under." Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, I completed the majority of my urology training in various hospitals across the state of New South Wales. Professionally, I am very interested in reconstructive and functional urology. Outside work, I enjoy playing badminton, drinking coffee, snowboarding, having fun with friends and collecting stories. I love travelling and have attended 3 previous AUA Annual Meetings. I am thrilled to be invited to represent the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand in the AUA Residents Bowl. I'm a second year urology resident at the University of Brescia and I am one of the 25 members of the SAISU (Italian academic resident senate) as a representative/delegate of my residency school. As one of the two Italian residents chosen for a SIU-AUA research fellowship, I'm pursuing research at the Urology Department of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This fellowship has been an exciting opportunity to learn about other cultures, experience a different lifestyle and above all, I have gained excellent hands-on training in laboratory research. I am honored to have been chosen to represent the Italian Urology Society during this 2015 AUA resident bowl and I am thrilled to start this competition.

Brandon Haynes, MD is a native of Louisiana, he completed his undergraduate medical education at the Louisiana Health Science Center's School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2011. He is currently a PGY-4 in the department of Urology at the University of Washington in Seattle, completing his research year with a focus in Neuro-Urology. His career interests include General Urology, Reconstruction, and Endourology. In his free time, he enjoys film, travel, and reading.


Nishant D Patel, MD

Nishant D Patel, MD was born in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Prescott, Arizona in 1987. He attended the University of Arizona for his undergraduate studies, where he received his BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He continued at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, earning his MD in 2008. From there, he performed research at Cornell University in NYC under Dr. Ashutosh Tewari in Robotic Prostatectomy outcomes. Dr. Patel continued following his interest in robotic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan as a clinical research fellow. He is currently a PGY5 urology resident at UCSD Medical Center. Outside of medicine, he enjoys outdoor activities including hiking, surfing, snowboarding, tennis, golf, skateboarding, running, rock climbing, mountaineering, and camping. He also has a great interest in music, being a proficient drummer, guitarist, and DJ.

I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. I grew up playing basketball, violin, and training in martial arts. I subsequently went into computer engineering following high school, being fascinated with technology. My interest in medicine evolved during a summer engineering internship, assessing systolic pressure variation in children undergoing cardiac bypass surgery. Urology was a natural choice due to the advanced technological innovation within the field. While not at work, I enjoy playing the guitar, squash, tennis, swimming and basketball. I love the great outdoors, and snowboarding with a passion. One of my goals in life is to travel the world!

Dr. Trofimenko is currently a third year resident at the University of Utah. She completed her Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences at Columbia University in New York City. She then went on to earn an MD and a Master's Degree in Clinical Research from the University of California, San Diego. Her principal clinical research interests are in reconstructive urology and male infertility. She speaks Russian, Spanish, French, English and Hebrew.
